Located about 600 miles west of Australia's cosmopolitan hubs of Sydney and Melbourne, South Australia has fast become one of the world's ultimate wine producing regions.
Not long after the establishment of the first European settlement the area's rich soil and temperate climate, characterized by mild winters, warm summers and plenty of cool ocean breeze, were recognized as ideal for the production of wine. Starting as early as 1836, South Australia began producing some of the world's most luscious Shiraz, lively Chardonnay, smooth Riesling and flavorful Grenache.
Today over fifty percent of all Australian wines are produced in the state. Usually compared to the growing conditions found around the Mediterranean, the soil and climate of South Australia continue to amaze wine drinkers around the world for the quality and value of their wines.
